To minimize frictional wear between an anvil and an ultrasonic hammer by securing surface-to-surface parallelism at every position between the anvil and the ultrasonic hammer so as to always provide uniform contact between the anvil and the ultrasonic hammer in various positions possible for each other.
A component 14 is engaged to the side apart from a weld lip part 15 and has a springing and/or braking effect. The anvil 1 is pretensioned in the direction of the ultrasonic hammer by the component 14. The component 14 interacts with the anvil 1 or with a moving member of a parallel lever 2 and has the braking effect against the movements of the anvil 1 and the parallel lever 2, therefore, the movement of anvil 1 is braked by the component 14. This is especially advantageous in high speed welding, because the stable position of the anvil 1 should be obtained as quickly as possible after joining of the ultrasonic hammer 16 with the anvil 1 in order to enable ultrasonic welding to be performed with a uniform pressure.
