Abstract:

To provide a method and an apparatus for estimating a bit error rate of communication data.

The apparatus (64) for a receiver (32) receives the sequence of digital data received from a transmission station (12), and data is constituted of symbols unknown before they are received by the receiver (32). The apparatus (64) is provided with a detector (76) and an accumulator (78). The detector (76) is configured to receive the index of a confidence level related to the detected value of the sequence of digital data and is configured to detect whether or not the confidence level is below a selected threshold. The accumulator (78) is configured to receive the index of detection carried out by the detector (76) and accumulates the count of the detected value of the sequence having the confidence level below the selected threshold.
