To provide an apparatus for carrying a workpiece, which conforms to the requirement of a thinned portion to be inserted into the space between the bed and the slide of a press machine and is suitable for the high speed transfer of the workpiece.

A workpiece carrying apparatus 1 includes: a carrier 2 extended in the direction of carrying a workpiece being a material to be processed; a body part 3 for movably supporting the carrier 2 in the feeding direction; a subcarrier 4 movably arranged along the carrier 2; a subcarrier driving mechanism 5 for moving the subcarrier 4 along the carrier 2; a carrier driving mechanism 6 for moving the carrier 2 in the feeding direction; an elevating/lowering mechanism 7 for moving the body part 3 upward and downward; a workpiece holding part 8 to be connected with the subcarrier 4, a cable guide 9 having feeder cables extended to at least respective workpiece holding parts 8; a rail 10 extended in the workpiece feeding direction; and a body part driving mechanism 11 for moving the body part 3 along the rail 10. The carrier 2, the subcarrier 4 and the cable guide 9 are arranged approximately within the same plane.
