PURPOSE: To form a plating layer of a uniform thickness on the surface of a metallic base moving continuously on a cathode roller with good current efficiency for plating by providing an insulative and wear resistant supporting device with a plurality of anode units at narrow spacings from the roller in the positions apart from the base material on the roller at the time of electroplating the surface of the metallic base material 2 with a metal.
CONSTITUTION: The roller 1 consisting of corrosion resistant metals, such as Ti, hastelloy and stainless steel, is rotated in an arrow (a) direction in a plating liquid 5 and the metallic sheet base material 2 on the roller 1 is moved together with the rotation of the roller 1. A current is supplied between the roller 1 and the plurality of anodes 3 likewise made of the Ti, etc., in the plating liquid 5 by using the metallic base material 2 adhered thereto as a cathode and the plating liquid is ejected out of an orifice of the surface of the anode 3 to apply the plating on the metallic base material 2. In such a case, the anode units 3 are base shoes 43 or small wheels consisting of the corrosion resistant materials having a small coefft. of friction and form the narrow spacings with the base material 2 at the end where the metallic base material 2 to be plated does not exist on the surface of the roller 1 at the specified spacings. The plating of a uniform thickness is thus applied on the base material 2 with the small electric resistance of the plating liquid and excellent current efficiency.
