To provide a rotary machine controlling apparatus that effectively uses the maximum available capability of the apparatus to shorten a torque rise at startup as much as possible and can eliminate or shorten the use time of a mechanical brake for preventing slip-off when it is used for applications such as a hoist and an elevator.
The apparatus includes a current command switcher 7 for output of an exciting current command id1* and a torque current command iq1* from an exciting current calculator 5 and a torque current calculator 6 to a controller 4 respectively after applying a correcting process so as to satisfy the formula id*=iq*=idq0=Imax/(√2), wherein Imax is the allowable maximum current. This command output continues for a period until a predetermined set condition is reached immediately after the startup of an induction machine 1.
