PURPOSE: To deodorize gases at high efficiency by disposing from bottom upwardly to top within a deodorization column a neutralization agent contact bed, produced acid flow down prevention board, produced acid contact bed, and organism carrier bed, and spraying water for neutralization to be added to wash water for the organism carrier bed over the neutralization agent contact bed before adding it to the wash water.
CONSTITUTION: Water for neutralization comprising alkali agent for use in neutralization of excess acid produced in biological oxidation and decomposition of malodorous components and make-up water to keep the concentration in the wash water at such a level that the activity of microorganisms immobilized on the organism carrier bed 2 is not damaged is sprayed from spray nozzles 204 to be brought into gas-liquid contact, at the neutralization agent contact bed 14, with gas to be treated 10 from an inlet port 11 provided at the lower portion of a deodorization column 1 to neutralize and remove acidic malodorous components, following which, at the produced acid contact bed 16, wash water for organism carrier bed containing acid from spray nozzles 33 is brought into gas-liquid contact with the gas to be treated to neutralize and remove basic malodorous components. The falling wash water containing excess acid does not come into direct contact with the contact bed 14 due to the provision of the produced acid flow down prevention board 18. Finally, remaining malodorous components are decomposed away in the organism carrier bed 2.
