To obtain a system for determining a passive target position of a single sensor which can correctly and quickly determine a velocity and an azimuth of the target and a two-dimensional target position before passing the most proximity point of the target (CPA).
The apparatus is provided with a first mechanism including a sensor array 32 for providing an azimuth and frequency information related to a target, a beam-forming network 34, a tracking device 36, etc., a second mechanism such as a passive target position-determining device 30 or the like for estimating a parameter related to a CPA of the target and executing a one-dimensional grid search algorithm to provide an output responding to the parameter and a succeeding multi-dimensional search algorithm, and a third mechanism for evaluating a target position on the basis of the azimuth, frequency information and output.
