Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make it possible to form a precise incision in the wall tissue of blood vessel for mitigating stress thereon, by providing plural number of atheroma incision instruments in parallel to the longitudinal axis of a catheter on the outer surface of flexible and almost cylindrical balloon film, which is connected to the end part of the catheter.
CONSTITUTION: An inflatable balloon 12, which is located near the end of a hollow catheter 14, has a portion formed cylinderically between a distal annulus 16a and the proximal annulus 16b on the outer surface 18, and has the taper- shaped end 22a and proximal end 22b extended along the longitudinal axis from the end annulus 16a and 16b. The catheter 14 enters the balloon 12 through a proximal aperture 24a and gets out of it at a distal aperture 24b, and a flexible tip 26 is provided at the end 13. Atheroma incision instruments 28 (28a-28c) are installed on the outer surface of the above mentioned balloon 12 at equal intervals circumferentially and in parallel along the longitudinal axis of the catheter 14. And each atheroma a incision instrument is constructed by embedding metalic blade-shaped structures 30, which possess a blade 31 in a polyurethane carrier 32.
