PURPOSE: To efficiently remove dust and clean a rug by beating the rug continuously conveyed with the napped surface down and driving out dust with a rotating belt member of a lower dust beating device and beating action of rocking beating rods of an upper dust beating device and then cleaning the surface through a brush roller.

CONSTITUTION: A rug such as carpet or mat placed on a charging table 20 with the napped surface down is pushed out in the direction of an arrow (X), passed through a conveying roller 120 and a press roller 130 and forcibly conveyed to beat the whole width of the napped surface of the aforementioned rug by rotation of a belt member of a lower dust beating device 200. The beaten and driven out dust is then discharged through a gas discharging device 60. The back surface of the rug reaching under the upper dust beating device 300 is then beaten over the whole width with cam rocking action of beating rods to beat and drive out the dust. The napped surface is then arranged and dust sticking to the napped fiber is simultaneously swept out with a brush roller 100. The resultant rug is then led out onto a taking out table 30.
