To provide an apparatus for estimating an initial pole position suitable for a synchronous motor having an increment rotational coordinate system, especially a synchronous motor for the spindle of a machine tool, conveniently and quickly.
In the apparatus for estimating the initial pole position of a synchronous motor without using a pole sensor and performing vector control based on estimated pole position information, the estimated pole position is varied, and an estimated pole position for a maximum moving amount observed by a moving amount detector for each speed control based on the varied pole position and an inputted constant microspeed command is corrected by an estimated pole position correction amount determined based on the relation of four values obtained by patterning the movement for respective estimated pole position thus estimating the initial pole position.
