To provide an apparatus for handling paper sheets and the like which sets a usable number of times of wrapping of an ink ribbon and displays an ink ribbon replacement message to an operator when this number of times of wrapping is reached, and to provide a method for displaying an ink ribbon replacement message of an apparatus for handling paper sheets and the like.

The paper sheets and the like accumulated with the use of a paper strip printed by a paper strip printer 461 equipped with the ink ribbon are subjected to the wrapping treatment by a wrapper 431. An information system personal computer 10 receives the treatment result and counts the number of times of wrapping. When the counted number of times of wrapping reaches a predetermined number of times k, the ink ribbon replacement message is displayed at an operation part 11 of the information system personal computer. The ink ribbon replacement message can be deleted from the operation part 11 after the operator replaces the ink ribbon. Also the number of times of wrapping is set into an initial state (m=0) by this deletion.
