To provide an apparatus for holding a weft yarn in an air jet loom capable of surely holding the weft yarn while more reducing and suppressing the damage to the weft yarn.
This apparatus for holding the weft yarn is characterized in that the mechanical type holding period (Tb) includes the cutting time (θc) when the weft yarn subjected to weft insertion is cut and is set at a shorter period than the air type holding period (Ta) when an air type holding device (150) holds the weft yarn in the air jet loom equipped with a weft yarn length measuring and storing device (120) for carrying out the storage and length measurement of the weft yarn, a main nozzle (140) for performing air jetting for welt insertion in order to carry out weft insertion of the weft yarn unwound from the weft yarn length measuring and storing device (120) into a shed of warp yarns, the air type holding device (150) for bending the weft yarn with an air stream and holding the weft yarn and a mechanical holding device (160) for mechanically holding the weft yarn between the weft yarn length measuring and storing device (120) and the air type holding device (150).
