To reliably and rapidly find water leakage spots in a water passage.
An apparatus 2 for locating water leakage spots is equipped with: a probing base 3 in which multiple inclining throughholes 4 are drilled; a hollow iron ball 5 accommodated in the throughhole 4, floating in water, and held on one end side 4B of the throughhole 4; a detector 8 provided on the one end side 4B of the throughhole 4 and outputting a detection signal to the outside when detecting departure of the hollow iron ball 5; and a central processing unit 11 which is electrically connected to the detector 8, locates the throughhole 4 in which a water current is generated, on the basis of the detection signal from the detector 8, and displays the water leakage spot in the display unit. A method for locating water leakage spots includes the steps of: placing the probing base 3 on the probing target place T in the water passage P (S1); bringing one surface of the probing base 3 into contact with the probed surface in the water passage (S2); and when the detector 8 detects generation of a water current, locating and displaying a position of an aperture 4A of the throughhole 4 in which the water current is caused, as the water leakage spot, by using the central processing unit 11.
