PURPOSE: To efficiently separate a yarn from a cop surface by providing a timer in which the longest search time is stored, and giving a command signal by a sensor immediately after it is detected that the yarn is clamped within the longest search time.
CONSTITUTION: When a back-winding yarn 47 clamped by a yarn separation member constituted as search cutters 16, 18 passes a back surface of the search cutters 16, 18, the passing is detected by sensors 48, 49. As a result, the command signal is given by the sensors 48, 49, an the next work is immediately started by the command signal. After the yarn is detected, the search cutters 16, 18 are lifted from a cop surface, and the yarn is separated or cut thereby. Thus, no yarn is fixed to the cop surface in a tensioned condition above the search cutters. In addition, the hooking of the yarn which is already separated at the height where the search cutters are located by the cop surface, is also avoided.
