This apparatus consists of a combustion furnace 1, a fixed carbonization vessel 2, an agitation paddle 34 disposed in the vessel 2 in a freely rotatable manner, a driving mechanism 37 for rotating the paddle 34, a main burner 8, a carbonization gas path 10 for discharging the carbonization gas produced in the vessel 2 from the vessel 2, and a carbonization gas burner. It is further provided with an air pre-heating section for pre-heating the air for during the carbonization gas with a chimney 7 and sending the pre-heated air to the carbonization gas burner and a means for decreasing the pressure in the vessel 2.
