To provide an apparatus for making ice of various forms and a control method therefor, producing snow type powder ice and flake-like ice from frazil made by an ice making drum according to selection of an ice type, while automatically controlling the stop in producing a proper quantity of ice.

This apparatus for making ice includes: a water supply tank; a hollow type ice making drum; a refrigerant circulating passage pipe part; a seal main shaft part installed in the ice making drum; a cutting knife; a refrigerator; a sensing part formed of a supply water level sensor; a power supply switch for applying power; an ice type switch for making selection between the snow mode and the flake mode; a switch part formed of a speed switch for controlling the rotating speed of the ice making drum; and a microcomputer installed to control according to preset information, wherein the sensing part includes a production sensor for sensing the production of snow and flakes cut by the cutting knife according to preset information, and ice can be automatically made under the control of the microcomputer.
