APPARATUS FOR MEASURING HORIZONTAL POSITION

PURPOSE: To measure a position of a head in a horizontal direction finely and' continuously by measuring a shifting amount of the head to a guide line by means of a transmission coil within the head and a receiving coil of a running device following the guide line.
CONSTITUTION: A transmission coil is set in a generating part 25 of a head 23 running in the ground. A receiving coil 32 of a running device 1 for specification of a horizontal position is set astride a guide line G and specifies a shifting amount of the head 23 in a horizontal direction to the guide line G. Data obtained by the receiving coil 32 is sent to a controlling side of the head 23 by a data transmitter. The running device 1 following the guide line G is provided with a receiving coil 2 which detects a magnetic force generated from the transmission coil thereby to specify a running direction of the head 23 along the guide line G. While the running device 1 is running, the shifting amount of the head 23 to the guide line G is measured via the transmission coil in the head and the receiving coil 32 set at the running device 1.
