Abstract:

PURPOSE: To measure the number of cells, e.g. platelets, in real time.
CONSTITUTION: The apparatus 6 for measuring the number of cells comprises a channel formed in a tube coupled with the flow-out port of a centrifugal bowl, an optical sensor (measuring section) 6 disposed in the way of the channel, a signal processing circuit 68, an operating section (information processing means) 71 for a control means 7, and a display means 75. The optical sensor 62 detects the concentration of platelet in the components of blood flowing through the channel and delivers an output signal to the signal processing circuit 68 where the signal is processed as required before being fed to the operating section 71 for the control means 7. On the other hand, delivery of a pump 9 is fed, as a flow rate of the blood components flowing through the channel, to the operating section 71. The operating section 71 processes the received data to determine the total number of platelets which is then presented on a display means 75.
