Abstract:

PURPOSE: To measure the opening of rail joint accurately without relying upon manual work by irradiating a rail with a light emitted from a light emitting element, detecting the reflected light by means of a plurality of light receiving elements arranged in the breadthwise direction of the rail, binarizing the detection signal using high and low threshold levels and then subjecting each output to logical operation.
CONSTITUTION: Rail surface is irradiated with a light emittedfrom an LED and reflected light is detected by means of photodiodes PD-1,..., PD-5 arranged in the breadthwise direction of the rail. It is then converted into a voltage through conversion circuits 41-1,..., 41-5 and further subjected to binary conversion through signal level detection circuits 42-1,..., 42-5. The binary conversion is performed by means of comparators COMP-1, COMP-2 using low and high threshold levels EL, EH. Outputs from two sensors capturing the rail surface exceed the level EH and outputs from the COMP-1, COMP-2, AND circuits 43, 44, and a 4/5 circuit 44 entirely go to zero thus determining the rail surface. When the outputs from two sensors are lower than EL, output from the circuits 43, 44, 45 entirely go to zero thus determining the opening of rail joint.
