To provide an opening/closing apparatus for an opening/closing member of a vehicle capable of smoothly moving the opening/closing member when a door is urgently stopped upon detection of an obstacle.

The opening/closing apparatus (1) for the opening/closing member comprises a drive means (40) for opening a hinged opening/closing member installed on the vehicle, a controller (30) for controlling the driving means (40) and obstacle-detecting means (28 and 29) for detecting the distance between the opening/closing member and the obstacle. The controller (30) monitors the distance between the opening/closing member and the obstacle and controls the driving means (40) to decelerate the opening speed of the opening/closing member as the distance between the opening/closing member and the obstacle decreases. When the obstacle moves away from the door-opening locus of the opening/closing member so that no obstacle is detected, the door-opening speed at the time of detecting no obstacle is kept for a specified time, and after an elapse of a specified time, the opening/closing member restores a normal door-opening speed by increasing the door-opening speed of the opening/closing member.
