To provide an apparatus and a method for quickly and safely breaking the casing of a compressor without using fire.

The apparatus for breaking the casing of the compressor has a circumference cutting unit having a sawing means capable of turning about a horizontal axis, and a swivelling table arranged on a travelling carriage which can be connected and disconnected to the circumference cutting unit and can move; and also is composed of a clamp unit having a clamping mechanism for gripping the compressor on the swivelling table such that the axis of the barrel of the compressor is coaxial with the turning center of the sawing means, and a linear cutting unit having a sawing means capable of moving straight on the outer surface of the casing along the longitudinal direction of the barrel of the compressor gripped by the clamp unit; and can automatically break the casing of the compressor.
