To provide an apparatus and a method for curtain coating both sides of a continuous metal band which enables curtain coating on both sides and coating on the surface of a hot-dipping steel plate with an even coating thickness even when the plate involves uneven thickness of plating in the width direction.
The coating apparatus for coating both sides of a continuous metal band 7 consists of a first curtain coating unit 1a for coating one side of the metal band 7, a preliminary drying unit 12 for preliminary drying the coated surface, a second curtain coating unit 1b for coating the other side of the metal band 7 and a heating unit 13, arranged in this order so as for the metal band to pass through. The upper surface of the metal band is reversed between the first and second curtain coating units 1a and 1b. The continuous metal band 7 is a hot-dipping steel band. A coating method using the apparatus is also provided.
