Abstract:

To provide a novel method of detecting fission or radioactive material.

The method of detecting of fission or radioactive material and radiation shielding material in a shipping container 9 consists of a radioactive material detection apparatus and a radiation shielding detection apparatus which are mounted in a container crane housing 21, 22 and 23 for moving the container 9. And these apparatus output the detected value, in order to detect the presence of fission or radioactive material and shielding material which conceals the presence of fission or radioactive material. The detected values are compared with a threshold value. Herein the threshold value is based on a known dangerous radioactive material, a known normal content or output of a vacant shipping container. Based on the detection result, the following action is decided on the shipping container 9.
