To provide a method of and its apparatus for simultaneously performing 3X3 interpolation and edge enhancement without any additional memory storage.

The apparatus for edge enhancement includes an image sensor sensing an image, a line buffer receiving image data sensed by the image sensor to output the image data, a register storing the image data transmitted from the line buffer, an interpolation unit receiving the image data stored on the register and performing the interpolation to output a selection signal indicative of the pattern of the image data stored on the register, an edge detection unit receiving the image data stored on the register according to the selection signal from the interpolation unit and calculating an edge detection value in parallel to the interpolation execution of the interpolation unit, and an edge enhancement unit enhancing an output of the interpolation unit according to the edge detection value detected by the edge detection unit.
