Abstract:

To estimate the file size of content to be received over broadcast networks.

An apparatus and method for estimating the size of content to be received, before actual transmission of its data, utilizes Electronic Service Guide (ESG) information. The ESG information assists a client device in obtaining information on a file before the file is actually transmitted by a file supply source. In this manner, a power supply of a user device can be managed more efficiently and provide the user with the capability to determine whether to store at the user device before consuming power resources necessary to obtain (i.e., download) and store a particular file of interest to the user without requiring any user intervention.
