To provide an apparatus and method for grinding capable of decreasing possibility of injury of an operator, and performing predetermined grinding for a cutting blade easily even when the operator is not well experienced.
This grinding apparatus 1 is for grinding the cutting blade, has a rotated disc-shaped grinding member 2, and a cutting blade support mechanism 6 which supports the cutting blade 4, brings the cutting blade into contact with the grinding member, and grinds the cutting blade with the grinding member. The cutting blade support mechanism has an arm member disposed so that a top end may be positioned at an upper portion of the grinding member, a cutting blade support portion which is attached to the top end of the arm member to move freely in a vertical direction to support the cutting blade at a lower edge, and a vertical movement control section 12 which controls vertical movement of the cutting blade support portion.
