Abstract:
To provide an apparatus and a method for irradiating charged particle beams to appropriately and easily irradiate a relatively large irradiation field with charged particle beams.
The irradiation apparatus irradiates charged particle beams emitted from an accelerator and controlled by a multi-leaf collimator with a plurality of leaves to a subject such as a patient on a treatment table 7 in a treatment room. The irradiation apparatus has an opening with a prescribed opening area for driving/controlling the leaves 8 of the multi-leaf collimator according to the shape of the irradiation field in response to the movement of the subject, so that a prescribed area of the subject is irradiated according to the shape of the irradiation field.
