Abstract:

To provide an apparatus and a method for manufacturing a carbon nanotube chip using a metal container as an electrode in which a solution containing carbon nanotubes sufficiently dispersed therein is dropped in a metal container, a tungsten chip having a radius of its tip end of less than 100 nm is placed on a surface of the solution, and then the carbon nanotubes is adhered thereto using an electrophoresis method.

The apparatus for manufacturing a carbon nanotube chip is provided comprising an AC/DC power supply unit 13 for supplying an AC/DC pulse; a tungsten chip 12 receiving power supply from the AC/DC power supply unit 13 and having a carbon nanotube 15 adhered to its chip end; and a metal container 11 connected to the AC/DC power supply unit 13 and containing a carbon nanotube solution, wherein a direction and strength of an electric field between the metal container 11 and the tungsten chip 12 and a meniscus on an interfacial surface between the chip end and the solution can be controlled to determine a forming direction of the chip, and an electrophoresis time can be controlled using an organic solvent with a different vaporization temperature to control a length of the carbon nanotube adhered.
