Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently manufacture a ceramic honeycomb structure which is excellent in erosion resistance, of which the partition wall is free of deformation or the like and which enables precise formation of a compact and uniform part for reinforcing the partition wall.
SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with a molding machine 1 wherefrom the honeycomb structure 10 having a plurality of cells opened in the end face are extruded consecutively, one or more movable support stages 3 which can carry and move the honeycomb structure 10 and a movable cutter 2 having a cutting member 23 and being movable. The honeycomb structure 10 extruded from the molding machine 1 is placed on the support stage 3, with the cell opening end face 9 on, and the support stage 3 is moved in the length direction Z of the honeycomb structure 10. Moreover, the cutter 2 is moved onto the honeycomb structure side on a plane including a cutting thin wire 25, synchronously with the movement of the support stage 3, and a guide groove is formed in the lateral surface of the outer periphery of the honeycomb structure by the cutting member 23. Then, the cutting thin wire 25 is positioned immediately in the guide groove and inserted, as it is, into the honeycomb structure 10 to cut it off.
