To provide a method and apparatus for accurately measuring characteristics of an optical device at low cost.
The apparatus includes at least a light source 100; a polarizer 104 adjusting a polarization direction of light from the light source; an optical fiber 106 propagating the polarization direction adjusted light; an alignment means 108 disposed at a predetermined position and adjusting a position of an output end of the optical fiber 106 against a position of an input terminal of the optical device 120 including a filter having birefringence; a detection means 132 detecting light output from the filter 120 out of light being input from the input terminal to the optical device 120 via the optical fiber 106 and permeating this optical device; and a polarization direction analytical means 138 analyzing the polarization direction of the light output from the filter based on the adjusted light polarization direction, and a frequency and an intensity of the detected light.
