Abstract:
PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure a head, which is floated by a low floating amount, readily and accurately by floating the floating head at the specified region of a rotary disk, and detecting the contact state with a projection for measuring the floating amount. CONSTITUTION:A floating head 3 which is supported with a head arm 5 and a supporting spring 4 is floated on a disk 1 which is rotated with a rotating mechanism 2 and has the flat surface. The floating amount is measured. At this time, the head 3 is brought into contact with the adequate rough surface at the outer periphery of the surface of the disk 1 and a lubricated CSS(Contact Start Stop) operating region 1a when the rotation is stopped. The head is smoothly floated to the lower height by the rotation. When the head 3 is moved over the specified region where measuring upper-limit projections (a) and (c) and projections less than lower limits (b) and (d) are provided, the contact with the projections (a) and (c) and the non-contact with the projections (b) and (d) are detected with an AE sensor 7 provided at an arm 5. Thus, the fact that the head 3 is located within the allowance region of the specified low floating amount is measured, and the good or bad state of the floating characteristic is judged.
