To monitor a lateral acceleration sensor provided in a vehicle by using a second lateral acceleration signal not decided by the acceleration sensor with a cost as low as possible.
In the apparatus for monitoring a lateral acceleration sensor 101 provided in a vehicle, a first lateral acceleration value for representing a lateral acceleration operated at the vehicle is measured by the sensor. A processing means 102 has at least one filter means, and the first lateral acceleration value aqfil is filtered by the filter means. A second lateral acceleration value aqvij is directly decided as a function of a wheel speed value measured by corresponding measuring means 103 by a deciding means 104. To monitor the sensor 101 in the means 105, the filtered lateral acceleration value is compared with the second lateral acceleration value.
