To provide an apparatus for preheating a roll in a hot-dip metal plating bath, which prevents troubles in plating qualities during a plating operation and improves the productivity, besides prolonging the life of the roll in the bath, and to provide a preheating method.
This apparatus comprises a tubular heating furnace 11 which is lined with a refractory, can be divided lengthwise, and can accommodate the roll 10a in the hot-dip metal plating bath to be heat-treated while having a gap between the two, and several burners 15 for heating a furnace wall 13 of the heating furnace 11, to substantially uniformly heat the roll 10a in the bath with the radiant heat from the furnace wall 13 of the heating furnace 11 heated to a high temperature, and from a combustion flame of the burners.
