Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for producing a quartz glass tube and a quartz glass rod, by which the fluctuation in the outer diameter of the tube or the rod is suppressed and the glass tube and the rod free from flaws and having good surface properties can be produced.
SOLUTION: In the apparatus for producing the quartz glass tube or the quartz glass rod, by heating at least one part of a quartz glass base material and then inserting the quartz glass base material into a hole of a die while relatively rotating with respect to the die, a portion for determining the outer diameter of the quartz glass tube in the hole of the die has a cross-sectional shape of polygon or circle when the cross-section is viewed from the inserting direction of the base material, and grooves are formed at the circumference part of the circle.
