Abstract:

To enable to quantitatively observe the morphological change of a sample.

In an apparatus for processing images, a detection part 52 detects a region of osteoclast precursor cells as a sample 18 from the observed image of the sample 18 whose form changes time-dependently. An superposing part 53 superposes the osteoclast precursor cell regions in the observed images at different times, an operation part 54 calculates the degree of morphological change of the osteoclast precursor cells depending on the area of the superposed region of the osteoclast cells to decide if the osteoclast cells have been differentiated or not depending on the degree of the morphological change. A processing part 55 displays the osteoclast precursor cells (matured osteoclast cells) and undifferentiated osteoclast cells in the observed images with different display forms. The invention can be applied to an observation system using a confocal microscope.
