To provide an apparatus for treating a photographic effluent and a method for treating the photographic effluent by which the efficiency of effluent treatment work is enhanced which performs clarification of the photographic effluent by collecting solid decomposed matter produced in decomposition of chemicals contained in the photographic effluent, and by which the operational costs for the effluent treatment work, and maintenance, repair and checkout work can be reduced.
In the method for treating a photographic effluent in which the photographic effluent is clarified under circulation along a circulation path by collecting solid decomposed matter contained in the photographic effluent and the clarified effluent is discharged, the solid decomposed matter is separated from the photographic effluent by centrifugation with a liquid cyclone connected to the circulation path, it is deposited as a sediment, this sediment is discharged from a sediment extraction part, the ratio between the flow rates of an upward flow and a downward flow generated in the liquid cyclone is regulated with an orifice set in the sediment extraction part, and the sediment discharged from the sediment extraction part is collected in a containment vessel.
