PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for treating water-containing organic waste, in each of which the water-containing organic waste is utilized effectively while keeping down an equipment cost and an operating cost.SOLUTION: The apparatus 1 for treating water-containing organic waste, includes: a probe 7 for extracting a part of the waste combustion gas, while cooling, from a kiln exhaust gas flow passage extended from a kiln tail 5b of a cement kiln 5a to a lowermost-stage cyclone of a preheater: a sorting unit (cyclone) 8 for separating coarse powder D1 from the gas G1 extracted by the probe; a mixing unit 3 for mixing the coarse powder separated by the sorting unit in the water-containing organic waste S; and a supplying unit (belt conveyor) 4 for supplying a mixture M obtained by the mixing unit to a cement firing device 5. Since the coarse powder is mixed in the water-containing organic waste so that the water-containing organic waste is dried in this apparatus, there is no need to throw a lubricant into the water-containing organic waste and send the lubricant-thrown organic waste forcibly as before. Therefore, the equipment cost and operating cost to be required to convey the water-containing organic waste can be kept down, and a great heat loss can be avoided and the operating cost can be reduced drastically in the cement firing device.
