To provide an apparatus and method for washing biomass raw material such as bagasse to efficiently remove foreign matters without lowering the yield of the pith-included raw material.
There is provided an apparatus using a substantially-horizontal treating water tank 16 in which the charging portion 11 for biomass and water is provided at one side, and a stirrer 12 extending from one side to the other side shifts biomass to the other side while stirring is installed, and also there is provided a biomass washing method. An overflow discharge port 18 of water and accompanying biomass is provided at the other side of the treating tank, and a precipitation part 25 which tucks downward and communicates with the inside of the tank is provided below the other side. Further, a discharge conduit extending downward from the lower end of the precipitation part is provided. In the precipitation part 25, the foreign matters mixing in biomass are precipitated, and the precipitated material in the precipitation part 25 is discharged from the discharge conduit.
