To provide an apparatus and a method of working fine recessed parts by which it is possible to control the pattern and position of fine recessed parts formed on the outer peripheral surface of a material to be worked and it is also possible to achieve the prolongment of the life of a working roller by eliminating a slip between the working roller and the material to be worked.
This apparatus is provided with a spindle 3 for holding and rotationally driving the material W to be worked, a working roller 5 on the outer peripheral surface of which fine projecting parts are provided and which is supported on a roller shaft 4 freely rotatably, a coil spring 23 for pressing the fine projecting parts against the outer peripheral surface Wa of the material W to be worked by imparting load to the working roller, a load cell 6 for measuring the load, motor 7 for driving the roller, a driving force transmitting means for transmitting the driving force from the motor 7 to the working roller 5, a rotational speed detector 10 for detecting the rotational speed of the working roller 5 and a control part 11 for outputting a control signal to the motor 7 to synchronize the rotational speed Vt of the working roller 5 with the rotational speed Vw of the material W to be worked.
