To provide an apparatus and a method for working fine recessed parts, wherein fine recessed parts can preciously be formed on the outer circumferential face of a columnar workpiece or on the inner circumferential face of a circular hole in the workpiece, and the working time can be shortened drastically.
The apparatus comprises: a working zone 10 with several fine projecting parts high in hardness provided on the surface; and a press roller 5 capable of pressing the working zone 10 against the outer circumferential face Wo of a workpiece W. The working zone 10 has zone width dimensions w equal to the length in the axial direction of the part to be worked in the outer circumferential face Wo of the workpiece W and also has zone length dimensions l equal to the length in the circumferential direction of the part to be worked, and, the apparatus includes the main shaft 3 and a working zone driving part 6 for relatively moving the contact position between the outer circumferential face Wo of the workpiece W and the fine projecting parts of the working zone 10 to the circumferential direction, in a state in which the fine projecting parts in the working zone 10 of which the zone width direction is matched to axial direction of the part to be worked are pressed against the outer circumferential face Wo of the workpiece W by the press roller 5 under a fixed load or displacement.
