To separate an alcohol such as methanol and a carbonic ester such as dimethyl carbonate without feeding an entrainer prepared in another plant.
The apparatus for producing the carbonic ester is equipped with a ketal-producing device 70 for reacting a ketone with the alcohol and affording a ketal, a reactor 20 for reacting the ketal with carbon dioxide and producing the carbonic ester, and a purification column 50 for the carbonic ester designed to separate the carbonic ester from a mixture comprising the unreacted ketone and/or the produced ketal produced in the reaction for producing the ketal in the ketal-producing device 70 and the carbonic ester produced in the reactor 20. Thereby, the unreacted ketone and/or the produced ketal in the reaction for producing the ketal are used as the entrainer in the purification column 50 to separate the carbonic ester.
