To provide an apparatus for producing a magnesium alloy cast billet excellent in surface quality can be obtained reasonably in the mechanism.
The apparatus produces the magnesium alloy cast billet by pouring molten magnesium alloy pumped up from a melting furnace into a metallic mold through a nozzle to be solidified. This apparatus is provided with; a nozzle having at least three of nozzle pieces connected so as to be rotatable between mutually adjacent nozzle pieces; an ascending/descending means for ascending/descending the tip end part of nozzle piece supported by facing to the metallic mold among these nozzle pieces; a detecting means for detecting molten surface in the metallic mold of the molten magnesium alloy poured into the metallic mold through these nozzle pieces; wherein the nozzle piece at the tip end part is risen under state of approaching this molten alloy pouring hole to this molten alloy surface by operating the ascending/descending means while matching to the rise of the molten alloy surface in the metallic mold detected with the detecting means.
