To discharge a fiber sliver package in a simple manner.
An apparatus, on a spinning machine, for depositing a fiber sliver includes: a delivery device for delivering the fiber sliver; and a substantially planar receiving support surface for receiving and collecting the fiber sliver in the form of a can-less fiber sliver package. The receiving support surface is substantially unenclosed. The receiving support surface and the delivery device are displaceable relative to each other. The receiving support surface is movable horizontally in a reciprocating manner. The apparatus further includes a device for displacing the collected fiber sliver outward from the depositing area in the form of the can-less fiber sliver package. In order to facilitate the discharge of the can-less fiber sliver package, the fiber sliver package can be discharged from the machine together with the receiving support surface. The fiber sliver package can be removed from the receiving support surface, and the receiving support surface can be displaced back into the machine.
