To provide an apparel print system and method, and a print program with which gamut mapping is performed for an area exceeding a color gamut of a printer to a comparatively wide area in the color gamut, no unnatural variation of saturation in a print image is generated and background such as gradation is naturally printed.
To an image including a knitted fabric and the background, the knitted fabric and the background are discriminated by image recognition. To the knitted fabric, gamut conversion is performed so that a color value of an original image is reproduced approximately on the whole of the color gamut of a color printer and an area outside the color gamut of the color printer is mapped to a narrow area near the boundary of the color gamut. To the background, the gamut conversion is performed so as to narrow down an area where the saturation of the original image is stored by the color printer and to reduce the saturation in the other area.
