PURPOSE: To obviate the adhesion of the carbide of the protein and oils and fats of the vital tissue formed by the thermal effect of the arc discharge and Joule heat occurring in the incision and coagulation and to enable the execution of continuous incision and coagulative operation by composing at least a part of an appliance for surgery by molding of a C/C composite material.
CONSTITUTION: A monopolar electric knife 1 is composed of an electric knife body 2 molded of the C/C composite material and an insulating tube 3 fitted onto this electric knife body 2. The electric knife body 2 has a knife end electrode 4 disposed at its front end and a holder part 5 disposed at its rear end. This holder part 5 is connected to the connecting port of the monopolar knife holder and the monopolar knife holder is connected to an electric operating device. The electric knife body 2 is composed of the C/C composite formed by aligning carbon filaments impregnated with a phenolic resin in one direction and subjecting these filaments to a firing treatment. The knife end electrode 4 is formed by machining the end of the electric knife body 2 to a blade shape.
