To provide an application apparatus which can maintain the state of a liquid film of a coating liquid formed on an applicator roller in a good state for a long period and can be manufactured simply and inexpensively.

The apparatus for applying the coating liquid L on the surface of a continuous base paper P conveyed from a paper machine in a paper making process is provided with the applicator roller 2 which has the liquid film of the coating liquid L formed on the surface thereof and transfers the liquid film to the base paper and a thickness control part A which controls the liquid film of the coating liquid L formed on the surface of the applicator roller 2. The thickness control part A is provided with a rod 3 having a rotation shaft parallel to the rotation shaft of the applicator roller 2 and a coating liquid supply means which supplies the coating liquid L between the rod 3 and the applicator roller 2. The rod 3 is provided with a cooling water passage 3h for allowing cooling water to flow therein.
