To provide an application method and an application apparatus which when performing application on to a web, can prevent the engagement of air bubbles at an application part even in high-speed application and can suppress the occurrence of application defects due to the air bubbles.
The application method and the application apparatus are provided in which an application bar 3 is immersed in application liquid while supplying the application liquid 2 from an application liquid inlet to a vessel 1, the application bar is pressed to the web and the application liquid raked up by the application bar is applied on the web. As an upper end part, such an upper end part is used that: at least a part of the upper surface of each upper end part is inclined by 10 and 90 downwards from the horizontal direction as separating from the opening side into an upstream direction and downstream side direction; and of gaps between the application bar and the lower end part from the application bar, a first gap positioned on the upstream side is 3 mm and a second gap positioned on the downstream side is 2 mm. For the supply of the application liquid to the vessel 1, the application liquid is leaked from between the opening and the application bar to the upper surface of each upper end part.
