To provide an improved manufacturing process of a pipe using a hybrid welding process of a combination of a laser beam and an electric arc.
The method is used to manufacture a welded pipe from a metallic strip having two edges, which are approximately in parallel with each other in the longitudinal direction, by joining the edges by welding a pre-tube after forming the non-welded pre-tube by substantially making the edges in contact with each other by abutting the edges. In the method, at least a laser beam and at least an electric arc are used almost simultaneously, i.e., a hybrid arc/ laser beam welding process, preferably a plasma/laser beam welding process is used to weld two edges together for making a welded metallic pipe. A straight, helicoidal, or spiral weld seam is formed by using the process.
