To provide an aqueous coating composition which can form a coating film excellent in hot water resistance, weatherability, stain resistance, alkali resistance, and the like.
The composition comprises an aqueous dispersion of an organic-inorganic complex resin obtained by neutralizing an undermentioned hydrolysis condensation reactant with a neutralizing agent and adding water. The hydrolysis condensation reaction product is comprised of (a) 100 pts. by mass of a silicate represented by formula (1): R1nSi(OR2)4-n (1) (wherein R1 is a 1-8C organic group; R2 is a 1-5C alkyl group; and n is an integer of 0-2), an organosilane, and/or a partially hydrolyzed condensation product thereof, (b) 20-200 pts. by mass of a silyl group-containing vinyl resin having an acid number of 30-150 mgKOH whose silyl group has a silicon atom bonded to a hydrolyzable silyl group or a hydroxy group, and (c) 20-200 pts. by mass of a silyl group-containing vinyl resin having an acid number of 0-25 mgKOH/g whose silyl group has a silicon atom bonded to a hydrolyzable silyl group or a hydroxy group.
