Abstract:
To provide an improved aqueous coating composition using metals as ionic crosslinkers.
A polymer which contains zinc ion, calcium ion, or magnesium ion and polymerized residues of 0.5 to 7 wt.% itaconic acid and 4 to 15 wt.% (meth)acrylic acid is prepared by forming a polymerization mixture having from 0.5 to 8 wt.% of a di-(meth)acrylate salt of zinc, calcium, or magnesium ion. The polymer has a Tg from 50 to 110°C.
